The UK's first 'new generation' Holiday Inn was has been officially opened by Andrew Cosslett, CEO of the IHG group.
Located in Winchester on the western edge of the new South Downs National Park, the hotel will provide the perfect gateway to this hugely important area of natural beauty. The hotel will also prove a big draw to guests from London with easy access to the M3 and the south coast.
The hotel is fronted by a double-height glass reception and the hi-tech, chic theme carries on throughout the hotel where guests will be able to relax in the modern, contemporary setting.
With a dedicated business suite, conference facilities for up to 200 delegates and seven fully functional boardrooms the new hotel is also expected to prove popular with business people from across the globe. The hotel is also equipped with all the latest technical equipment and is fully wi-fi enabled.
A lot of care was also taken to reduce the hotel's impact on the environment. This included all debris from the site being completely recycled with nothing going to landfill, the installation of long lasting light bulbs that boast a life of 12,000 hours as well as absence detection light systems in public areas.
The hotel also has its own recycling plant which creates clear clean water that's then released back to the land and care was taken to preserve local wildlife habitats for slow worms, toads and an assortment of reptiles.
Siobhan Thomasson general manager said:
"We're delighted to have opened the doors to the first 'new generation' Holiday Inn. I'd like to thank all those involved in the project and look forward to welcoming guests from across the world.
"It is also fantastic news for Winchester as we'll be encouraging all our guests to visit the town and surrounding countryside.
"Since this project began we always wanted to include the people of Winchester and make it 'their hotel'. The majority of people who will work here come from the local area and we've constantly liaised with local groups to get their input on the development.
"The staff we have acquired have extensive knowledge of the local area and a real love for Hampshire which will make a guest's stay all the more special. The time and effort they have put into the hotel in the lead up to the opening has been phenomenal, leaving me in no doubt they will continue to give their all after the opening.
"We expect to draw visitors from around the world due to our close proximity to London and several major motorways as well as our ample free and secure car parking. Winchester is also such a beautiful place to visit and being in the centre of this stunning city puts us in the ideal location."
