Opened by athletic legend Colin Jackson in May 2006, theclub at DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House in Congresbury redefined what people could expect from a local health club.
Costing £6 million, the stand alone club was the first phase of the redevelopment of what was then Cadbury House Hotel & Country Club.
With its state-of-the-art equipment, 20-metre pool and technically advanced, purpose-built studios complete with effect lighting and advanced music systems, it offered the very latest techniques in wellbeing health and fitness that proved an instant hit with members.
Since then membership has grown to over 4,000 with some travelling from as far as Bath to use the facilities.
Stars from sporting circles as well as many celebrities have also made use of the equipment during their stay at the hotel including Manchester City Football Club and stars from the hit TV show Casualty.
A multi-award winner, theclub has scooped numerous gongs during its short history including Spinning Club of the Year Award. It has since been billed as a centre of excellence by equipment supplier Startrac with fitness personnel from across Europe using the venue as a main training centre.
More recently it was voted the best health and fitness club in the UK at the Fitness Industry Association's (FIA) annual Flame Awards beating hundreds of other clubs from across the country.
The club has also grown since its opening with a new extension, new studios, designated children's gym and expansion of the adult gym.
Involvement with the local community occurs regularly with members of the gym team visiting schools to not only teach children the importance of a healthy lifestyle but to take classes.
Jason Eaton, manager at theclub and who has been instrumental in its success said:
It’s been an amazing five years which has seen theclub become one of the best independent health clubs in the UK.
What makes it so successful are the personalities of the team that work here. We want our members to enjoy their time here and the team’s relaxed but professional approach goes a long way to ensure members get the most out of the facilities.
We also constantly strive to maintain the high standards our members come to expect and thoroughly deserve and to have attracted over 4,000 members is testament to the team’s continual hard work and dedication to create a club that’s friendly, fun and a great place to be.
We’re also mindful of always being one step ahead of all other health clubs and pioneering new ideas and equipment is why our members get the most out of their training and exercise programmes.
Here’s to the next five years!
