Commitment to training lands region's premier hotel top honour

The region’s premier hotel, health club and spa has been recognised for its commitment to provide training for local students at an awards ceremony held in Weston.

DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House was presented with the Outstanding Business Partnership (Large Employer) award by Weston College at its annual student awards.

One of the South West’s major success stories, Cadbury House has close links with the college which provides range of courses for local students including 100 vocational courses, 32 A-levels and more than 40 Apprenticeships.

The relationship between the two means the four-star venue provides on-hands experience and training for those studying new qualifications such as business studies, catering or beauty therapy.
It has worked so well that the venue now has 11 students currently on site gaining valuable experience with many past students now working full time.

Colin Badcock, general manager at Cadbury House said: “It’s always nice to receive recognition for our work with local colleges and students. As a major employer in the region we have a sense of responsibility to provide opportunities to the students at the college.

“We find the apprenticeship scheme works fantastically well for us. Not only does it give young people the chance to get out there and gain invaluable experience, but we have met some amazing talent over the years and ended up making them a permanent part of the team.

“We employ apprentices in all areas of the business from the restaurant and the hotel to the health club and the spa.

“They bring fresh energy and skills to our organisation and it has been great to work closely with Weston College.”
